Time travelers guide to medieval england download pdf

I'm a "big boy" and sometimes the beds were pretty small. Most were fine. We had one that was a double, but we barely fit Grosvenor Pulford! Luckily we didn't fall out. Optional excursions really add to the trip. I have recommended Collete travel to many. I was very pleased with our tour guide Norman Green. Was not pleased with the driver that was sent to pick us up at the airport. The company you use for transporting people from the airport to the hotel should be replaced.

The guide did some very cute Irish songs on the bus to help time go by. Lorraine, our tour guide, was super-organized and kept us organized. Herding cats is a good analogy as to what she had to work with! She was also very knowledgeable and very funny. Made the trip fun and educational.

We especially liked the videos during the long coach rides. We had a total serendipity moment when we went to Caernarfon Castle. Kids were running and shrieking and laughing as were some adults as they tried to catch bubbles. This was not planned by Collette or Lorraine, but was totally magical! This package was a long one and trip was well organized.

Much of the success can be attributed to the tour manager. Ours did a good job in educating us on the sights, customs and history through the journey.

A suggestion I would make is that the time between arrival at the hotel and departing for dinner allow enough time for the luggage to be delivered to the room. Well planned to see the most of Great Britain in a brief 2 weeks. All details well handled.

Hotels very good. Guides very knowledgeable. Natives very friendly. Recommend this trip. Our tour manager, Lorraine Robertson was simply outstanding. She was very good at keeping us on track with the schedule. We enjoyed every aspect of our guided tour, but enjoyed every moment of our free time as well. I would recommend Collette to anyone willing to listen to our praises.

We plan on using Collette in the future for other bucket list trips. All of Ireland and Scotland were the highlights of our tour. I can not single out a particular moment as a favorite, for they all were favorites. Our guide The bus driver The British Tattoo performance was amazing and left a quite memorable impression on me! Wish we had more time in London and Dublin. Not so much at Gretna Green or Llanfairpwllgwngll Everything was taken care of: from the pick-up at our door to take us to the airport, to Lorraine's cheerful face waiting for us upon arrival, to being dropped off at home -- everything was arranged and handled smoothly and professionally.

We were able to see and experience so much in the time we had The highlights of our tour were the Edinburgh Tattoo, Windsor Castle, and the cooking class in Dublin -- what fun! The organization was great. Our Guide April Smith was very well informed and kept the entire trip interesting and filled with anticipation.

And the little specials on the journey.. Thanks so much for the time and effort. The cooking class was an unexpected surprise and delicious. The Tattoo was a wonderful ending experience.

We had been anticipating this and were not disappointed. Good service. A gap in communication right at the beginning. We almost missed the kickoff dinner, because between Lorraine and the hotel we did not get our initial packet in time. Otherwise, very good. Very comprehensive trip with something for everyone. Fun tour guide - kept up with last minute changes, etc. Showed us informative films pertaining to the history of what we were seeing and visiting. Excellent driver!

He kept us safe and was very courteous. Good hotels with some being really excellent. We enjoyed staying at the Bath Apex rather than the originally planned overnight in Wales. Bath was really fun, beautiful and interesting. We loved the Dunloe in Killarney! The Grosvenor in Chester was first rate. We saw an incredible amount and covered a lot of territory on this tour. It was organized well with the right amount of stops and activities. The dinners were excellent, fun and varied. We enjoyed the cooking class in Dublin and the Irish House show.

The local tour guides were all excellent and knowledgeable. There were many memorable experiences such as seeing the sites which we had read about and studied for years - like Stonehenge and visiting Bath, where our daughter had studied in college, my husband kissed the Blarney Stone, we went for a jaunting car ride in Killarney Nat'l Park, Seeing the Rock of Cashel and the Guinness tour, Caernarfon Castle, passing the sign for " Hutton", the town named for my husband's ancestors just south of Gretna Green in the border country, Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Military Tattoo.

The supreme personal highlight of the tour for us was finding my husband's Elizabethan ancestor's tomb in York minster cathedral. Everything was well planned. Accommodations were comfortable. The excursions were varied and excitingly different from just going from castle to castle! Our tour manager was awesome, really helpful for me with my asthma problems and slower walking. It was entertaining and very different from what I expected at the Military Tattoo.

Everything was great. This is our second tour with Collette. The tour manager kept the tour and group moving with precision. The tours and hotels met or exceeded our expectations. There was nothing my wife and I had to worry about during this two week experience, except for getting our luggage out on time and getting into the coach. We used Columbus Travel to handle our arrangements. She is excellent!

They really take care of everything. Our guide for the most recent tour was perfect along with our driver. Norman and Chris were the best compliment together. This was our third tour and we are already trying to decide where we will go next year with Collette. While 14 days seems like a lot, now I want to go back for more in depth coverage. Seeing Stonehenge was a highlight as well as Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The trip was wonderful and everything went just as planned. We went to so many places and saw so much that without our pictures I would have forgotten some. I highly recommend Collette. Great tours, especially with the local tour guides. I loved the ring of Kerry and the drive through the hills in Scotland. This tour gave me Sakely what I thought it was terms of seeing the beauty of the countryside. Love the Jaunting car ride. This was my first and last bus tour. We spent too much time on the bus.

The bus was cramped for a large individual and my knees were up against the back of the seat in front of me. If possible, hotels should be airconditioned and beds should be wider. The meals that are included in the packages should be the travelers choice for the particular restaurants that are chosen. Emphasis should not be put on alcoholic beverages since many do not drink. I personally was disappointed that none of the packages offered fish and chips, Shepard's pie or bangers and mash. I also think that if the trip manager, bus driver, and tour guides pay should be included in the price of the packages and not expect the people on the tour to tip them as an add on.

You should be the experts on what they are worth and not me. I was disappointed that we did not see more of the small towns that we passed on the bus. I am sure that there is more to see that just castles, for example I enjoyed the sheep dog exhibit and the Waterford crystal factory. Too much was spent on the history of the monarchy.

The guides were will informed but I did not need to know the total history of the monarchy of the United Kingdom. The itinerary gave a good taste of the countries.

It was as was listed in the online information. It would have been a little more helpful if more detail was given about the guided tours in the individual towns to make it easier to plan our free time to see those places not covered by the tour. The tour agent with Avoya travel provided good service in planning and purchasing the tour. The itinerary was good and the pace comfortable. Most of the hotels were quite nice with the exception of the hotel in Cardiff.

Our guide, John Hogan and driver were excellent! They were very informative and the sites we visited were exactly what we wanted!! Kudos to them! It would be impossible to pick only parts of the tour. It was all great. Provided an excellent tour guide with plenty of information. I would recommend and use Collette again. Cardiff and Killarney were very enjoyable cities to walk about!!!

Bath should have been extended so that one could have seen the architecture of the Royal Crescent and the Circus. The ferry ride was excellent and relaxing. The Ring of Kerry was beautiful!!! Dublin, Edinburg and London were bigs cities and too busy.

The small section of Hadrian's wall was disappointing!!! York and Stratford-upon-Avon were a real delight!!! Excellent guide, excellent meals, excellent hotels, excellent driver, excellent itinerary, excellent valus. The tour guide was very experienced and was able to handle several unexpected situations with confidence and practicality.

All the locations and attractions were things that we enjoyed seeing. Very comprehensive tour of England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland compressed into 15 days. We had an excellent tour manager and was able to keep all 38 of us on schedule for this tour. We drive over miles on the tour and the bus was new, but did not have much legroom. Comprehensive tour and had great weather throughout the vacation.

They got the 5 STAR mainly because of the tour guide. The variety of things and places we had seen and again the tour guide. Norman, our fearless leader made the two weeks go perfect.

Every day was full, from start of the day to the end. Thank you for such a good trip. Really had a great time. Norman is knowledgeable and funny! Andy is a prince of a driver. Too many memorable experiences to list: top 5—Killarney jaunting ride, Viking tour in Waterford, Coventry cathedral, Stonehenge, Wales sheep herding demo.

Many of us would have liked that. Better shopping for grandkids. We have traveled extensively over the last 45 years of our marriage, so we are not novices regarding travel companies and cruise lines. We were pleasantly surprised with the coordination, the accommodations and our tour guide's knowledge of the terrain, culture and historical facts. The itinerary was perfect for what we wanted to achieve.

After nearly three months worth of advanced research and asking for answers to most of our questions, we embarked upon this adventure knowing that we were being treated to the very best experience money could buy.

Knowing that we might see and witness the homestead of our relatives in England, Scotland King of Scotland, circa A. How many people can claim to be related to the King of Scotland, some 40 generations ago? So, from this point of view, this tour through the British Isles, London, Wales, Ireland and Scotland was right of target. I would recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in an overview of the U.

The hotels and service were great, and the transfers went smoothly, I was picked up by very professional drivers who were waiting for me at every stop!

If you want a no hassle trip, Collette should be your choice, they take care of everything. This is my second Collette tour and again they didn't disappoint! Collette's booking and customs service by telephone are good. They always helped with my concerns. I do have a complaint about the actual tour. On the next to last night we had prepaid for the optional Flavors of York experience. Only 3 people had signed up, so I understand why it was canceled. However, the next morning at breakfast I encountered someone who was staying in the exact same hotel with a different Collette tour.

Her group had been able to experience the Flavors of York. I wish Collette had arranged for us to join the other group. The whole reservation process was very easy and the agents were always willing to answer questions! The tour was excellent and we can't whittle the experience down to just one favorite!

All of Collette tour managers are great. They take good care of their travel clients. Hotels are very good. Meals are good they give you a nice choice that everyone should be able to enjoy there meal.

The sites that Collette takes their travel clients to see are great. If a problem comes up, like when are bus broke down, are bus driver got us safely to the side of the road. Safety procedure given to us. Our bus driver called in for a new bus to pick us up and we were on are way within 2 hours. The most important thing I can say about Collette is I feel safe traveling with them. I have always recommend Collette to other people because of how they keep their travel clients safe, the places they take us to.

Collette provides a great experence. I took this tour 20 years ago, and enjoyed it then. I have enjoyed the tour this time also. Because I saw different thing this time but also saw sites I saw 20 years ago which was good to see again. Collette's customer service is superb - friendly, knowledgable, and helpful.

When you call with a question they know what you are talking about and are able to answer your concern immediately and they offer an immediate email confirmation. We especially enjoyed the jaunting car ride in Killarney National Park. They gave us a good overview of the 4 countries in a short period of time. The whisper sound machines really helped hear the guide for most situations. The last coach that we had didn't have enough leg room for the long distances that we drove.

Good memories followed us home especially the view from our hotel room in Edinburgh, Scotland of the Edinburgh Castle. Every minute was planned, but with utmost concern for their customers' comfort, and well being. Windsor Castle especially interesting because it continues to be the summer residence of the Queen and family.

The tour was very good. Good tour guide however, I would have liked more info from him as we entered into towns along the way. Also there was a significant stomache illness all through the guests during the entire 2 weeks. I think a bit more attention could have been paid to this. While there were 2 or 3 very nice hotels, a few were well below average. We thought the tour was very good. Enjoyed visiting so many different areas and experiencing those cultures. We were however disappointed in some of the hotels we stayed in as they were not up to the standard we had experienced from Collette in the past.

Also we were disappointed that there were such limitations in the alcoholic beverages at the dinners, even the dinners which we paid for As additional options. We Have never had that experience on any tour we have taken before.

Also there should have been water available on the bus. Everyone on the tour mentioned that. Hopefully these comments will help you to improve your service in the future. It was difficult to single out one experience on the tour. There were many! We had a great experience with Colette. All service was efficient and professional. We enjoyed many experiences on this tour. A favorite was the visit to a working sheep farm. Yes,tour manager was excellent.

He went above and beyond in our tour. Kissane Farms was excellent. So different and personal. The cooking class in Dublin was very different and fun. We traveled throughout England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Our Collette tour from booking until landing back at home was flawless.

He took great care of every traveler. We were able to see big cities as well as amazing countryside. We will travel with Collette again.

We're just licking our chops to see where we want to travel next. We saw the big cities but were able to get a real feel for the countrysides and small villages. The choices of which amazing castles to visit, which small towns would give the flavor of the country, and which tours to offer who knew a cooking class in Dublin would be as talked about by the men as the women?!

Collette is a great travel company. This is the second time that I have used this company and I would definitely use them again. A very good travel manager as she was from the USA so no problem understanding her. All the tours were good and really enjoyed the Cooking school and the Military Tattoo. Our tour guide and our bus driver were great! The choices of attractions we saw were first rate. The Royal Military Tattoo was outstanding.

My wife and I so enjoyed the trip. It was a wonderful experience. Our tour guide and bus drivers worked hard to make it a success.

They thought of everything! And, at the conclusion of the trip when the airline cancelled our flight home, the folks at Collette stepped in procuring another itinerary for us. Thank you. There is so much history there. It was the worse hotel experience of my life. I would not recommend that property. Collette has excellent service from door-to-door pickup to great hotels, good food, nice buses, excellent tour managers. We have toured with them at least 5 times and each one was superb.

The military tattoo was outstanding. We also enjoyed the church at Coventry. I will definitely recommend Collette to my friends. My experience with them was great. This tour was great. We saw so many places it is hard to pick a favorite I loved it all. The trip was very good. The hotels were also good.

The tour director was very knowledgeable about what was happening. Good trip over all. Responded to questions promptly and enthusiastically, provided materials in timely fashion, delivered a first-rate tour experience. Exposed us briefly to a wide range of sights and experiences across parts of the world we'd not seen before.

Most memorable was the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The Tour Manager was fantastic as was the bus driver. The hotels were all first-class- meals were all excellent and sites visited were all wonderful choices.

A great trip! But we forgot to let you know about some of the hotel eating experiences. At tha hotel in Killarney several of us asked for another roll and were told that they were out of more rolls. When it came to chose our dessert they were out of the one I wanted, I asked to speak to the manager and he just blew me off.

All the other desserts had some kind of chocolate in them and I did not want to be up all night. After I got a dessert he came back by, did not say a word, left and came back with the one I had originally asked for. At breakfast one morning my husband asked for a little more syrup and was told they were out of syrup.

We also noticed several times at different hotels that we were seated and given a different breakfast than the "non tour people" staying at the hotel. They had a bigger variety to chose from. We have travelled with Collette three times now and on all of the tours we noticed that the "tour group" seems to receive a different and lower quality of rooms and food than other people staying at same hotel.

Thank you for wanting to know about our experience. Tour guide was sick when we got on the bus and he gave his cold to about half of the bus. He did not engage with us while driving, several times we never even heard anything from him for over an hour. One tour we had that he gave a lecture on, it was raining and he talked with us for almost 45 minutes in the rain telling us about this castle. We had been traveling on the bus for over an hour and he could've done it then on the bus and we could have stayed warm and dry.

The rooms felt to us like we got the left overs. Terrible views. We did joy several of the tours, especially the culinary school. Irish and Scottish night out we're fine also. Several local guide were excellent. We saw so many things and places. We had excellent food and stayed at many very nice hotels. My one concern is that there were people in the group who were not physically able to keep, the pace. We had to slow down or wait for them on a regular basis. I think the tour should be paced as it is listed in the prospectus.

Those who cannot keep up should sit on the bus or wait somewhere for the others. The service was just ok. Tour director and bus driver were great. The hotels and food were just so so. Some hotels were not located near anything. The optional tour were not worth the extra money at all. The group was 46 people, which was way to large. Overall, trip experience was good.

Tour covered a lot of territory. Our tour manager and bus driver were excellent. The food provided was average and the hotels were inconsistent. A couple of nights the hotels were very good, a couple of nights the hotel rooms were very small and hot no AC much below expectations, and the rest of the nights the hotel rooms were just adequate and barely adequate.

A lot of bus travel as the tour covered a lot of miles. More time should have been spent in Scotland and less in Dublin. Overall the tour was good, mostly because of the tour manager.

The best parts was the visit to the sheep farm in Ireland, Edenburg, Scotland, the "cook your own dinner night", several cathedrals and the scenery. Very efficient and responsive both on phone and in person. Trip ran very smoothly. Beautiful scenery of the countryside, especially in Ireland. Loved the variety of castles and cathedrals and the history associated with both. Enjoyed the cities we visited, both large and small. My favorite experience was exploring the castles.

It made history come alive for me. The entire tour was well managed, the tour guides were excellent and very knowledgeable.

Our bus driver was very professional and did an excellent job. We also enjoyed meeting new friends on the bus and along the way. I would highly recommend Collette for future travel. Enjoyed them all, Stonhenge and Kilarney stood out. Scottish night out was a bit tacky but Irish night out was great. Everything was fabulous I don't have one particular moment which stands out Our tour of northern half of Italy was amazing the whole through. We were a very happy group of 16 might I add.

It was fun!! The trip was intense, but very well organized. The tour guides were personable and knowledgeable. Well organized and the your guide was very personable and knowledgeable. Provided excellent program tour director as well as excellent and knowledgeable local tour guides.. Great Service. First experience with touring and first trip to Europe. Tour guide very friendly and knowledgeable. Good, clean hotels.

I felt too much time riding in coach. Would have liked to have had more time on stops to explore. However I had a great time and plan on taking another trip soon. Looking at Northern Ireland. Ireland was my favorite part of the trip. My favorite was Ireland. Great food and beautiful people. Good price for touring 4 countries. Great hotels. Tour guide very friendly.

Will definitely go again. Very attentive We had a wonderful tour guide. I would definitely recommend Collette and this particular tour. I loved being able to see so many places in one tour. I especially liked London. My walking tour with personal details removed by Feefo was wonderful. Since there was only two of us on the walking tour, she let us decide what to see, taking us on the Underground and a double decker bus. She so accommodating.

Super organized and the flow of the trip was very easy to acclimate with. The hotels were top of the line and there was a good balance between road time travel and comfort stops.

The guides are very personable and knowledgeable! We missed personal details removed by Feefo who was a fantastic tour guide. We were surprised that our tour guide left England before we did. Did not care much for the choice of Optional Tours especially the one in Scotland. More hype than substance. The trip was well organized and the leader was very good at his job. Every thing was done on time and controlled by the person in charge. The guide did not take charge of situations on bus and kept changing times for everything.

Well planned and executed. Only one terrible hotel, in Cardiff. Excellent tour guide and terrific local guides. All included meals except first were very good. The tour exceeded my expectations. I was very pleased with the itinerary to begin with knowing we would be visiting four countries: England Wales Ireland and Scotland. I thoroughly enjoyed the stops along the way.

Our tour guide prepared us for each stop, educating us on the history as well as current information such as population. She was always on top of the weather and made a change in our jaunting ride as the next day called for rain. I would highly recommend Exploring Britain and Ireland to anyone who really wants to see the sites! Our tour guide took us to the most reasonably priced stores to purchase our woolens, and informed us where we could get the best prices on our souvenirs.

I am very pleased with all of my purchases and have no regrets that I did not purchase something I saw that I wanted. The tour guide and service was great. All the sites were very well timed and our family had a great experience. We had a bad service experience with the Park Plaza Hotel in London and would recommend that another hotel be used. The location of the hotel was great. Also would recommend an optional tour to St. Andrews for some of those golfers out there instead of the city tour of Edinburgh.

Helpful, friendly people in your customer service department. Very informative when I asked questions concerning our tour. First time using Collette and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We felt the hotels chosen were nice, and the included tours were a lot of fun.

We had a wonderful tour guide, as well as terrific in country tour guides and bus drivers. I believe our walking tour of London with Jan was fantastic! She was informative, excited about the city, and an overall amazing lady. She showed us places and things you just can't see on a bus tour. Very enjoyable trip with an outstanding guide. Will use Collette in the future and would recommend it to others. Saw beautiful country. Enjoy our travel group. If you want to see 10 cities in 14 days!

This was a great trip, covered a lot of territory and saw some really great things along the way. We really enjoyed experiencing the different cultures. Loved out tour guide. He really made it fun. We really enjoyed our visit to the farm in Kilkenny. Joe and Mae were a most interesting couple and the story behind their farm was impressive.

The Border Collie Rye did a great job rounding up the sheep for us to see. Wonderful experience! Our tour guide, Nikki, was the best!

Well organized tour England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. Two wonderfully busy weeks! It is impossoble to choose a favorite! No comment. Pickup at the airport was a disaster. Stonehenge was disappointing in that you can only see it from a distance behind a fence.

Cardiff, Wales walking tour was boring. Did not see Changing of the Guard as advertised, but only part of the troop march to get there. Best part was the Military Tattoo in Edinburg, but this is only presented for 2 weeks in August. Really pleased with the home office service.

Very responsive, professional, and helpful. So many great moments. The tea house in Ireland with the medieval city ruins Jerpoint ; both the Scottish and Irish Nights Out; thrilled to stop in that town in Wales with the longest name - that was a nice plus that we weren't expecting; jaunting car ride through the park and the Ring of Kerry - outstanding.

Really happy with the accommodations as well, esp the Brehon and the Walton Manor house - I wish we had been at the manor house for two nights! My trip documents showed my return trip was to be on business class. The airline said no, only economy was booked. Naturally, we were surprised and disappointed. Over miles on the bus is too much.

We stayed in 9 hotels, and only two hotels for two nights. All other hotels were for only one night. I suggest weals need not be in the trip and more time spent in the other countries. The London stay was much too short. Service was very good and timely. Loved Jerpoint farms. Rock of Cashal Staff on the phone was very friendly, however, each time I spoke with them, I had to correct something they had wrong i. The web site is difficult to use, when payments are made, invoices are sent later in the day, but do not show an amount due.

This can and should be done instantly. Insurance purchased does not state that it is only in effect if tickets are bought within the time frame given to Colette. Felt that we didn't have enough time at Stone Henge or some other activities due to this. Felt rushed through some of the sites we visited due to time needed to be at the Ferry, or another site.

Collette had a highly professional guide and bus driver with careful planning at every step of the way. And when there was a blip in weather or conditions, they adjusted the tour gracefully and everyone enjoyed the trip. Hotels vary according to availability in a region, and we received excellent accommodations based on what was in the area.

Some hotels had better elevators, room size, and appointments, but nothing was substandard or unpleasant. Other Tours. Tour Rating: :. This great adventure takes you to the most fashionable cities and historic places.
